       Toys                by Matthew Heddon

A BRIEF HISTORY OF TOYS

BY MATTHEW HEDDON

A toy is an object used for play. Toys are very common among youngsters but before the 20th century children had few toys. Children before the 20th century did not have that much time to play. Some went to school but the majority had to do the work their parents wanted them to do such as working in the fields or in the house. Toys have been found dating back to 3000 BCE. According to Wikepedia:

“Toys and games have been unearthed from the sites of ancient civilizations. They have been written about in some of the oldest literature. Toys excavated from the Indus valley civilization (3000-1500 BCE) include small carts, whistles shaped like birds, and toy monkeys which could slide down a string.”

personal statement

I decided to pick toys as my theme because there are so many themes of toys so I thought that there was almost nothing I couldn’t make.  When I was a kid I liked toys like action figures, animals, and vehicles. I decided to make a video game character named kirby. Before making Kirby I thought it was  going to be easy to make him because he was just a sphere with shoes, arms, eyes, and mouth. I was so wrong. I didn’t realize how hard it would be to create the arms and how difficult it would be to translate them. When making the kirby I learned the hull command  for the shoes which I would use later on my other project. I also learned the mirror command so the whole time I was doing more work than  I needed to because I could have just reflected the objects rather than creating almost entirely different commands. I used these new commands I learned to make the airplane, bear, and pig.
